An interesting take on world religions [Dec. 24th, 2009|04:56 pm]

"No, Moslems don't believe that Jesus was the messiah.

Think of it like a movie. The Torah is the first one, and the New Testament is the sequel. Then the Qu'ran comes out, and it retcons the last one like it never happened. There's still Jesus, but he's not the main character anymore and the messiah hasn't shown up yet.

Jews like the first movie but ignored the sequels, Christians think you need to watch the first two, but the third movie doesn't count, Moslems think the third one was the best, and Mormons liked the second one so much they started writing fanfiction that doesn't fit with ANY of the series canon.

so here i am, at work [Dec. 21st, 2009|05:44 pm]

Im looking online for new jobs, hanging out with the one dog here I really like, Elle. Elle is a yellow lab, and fat. So every day i run Elle around extra, away from the other dogs, who she doesnt like (either).
elles owner came in, got the Elle Report on how we played, and hands me an envelope. my name is on it, and he tells me its just for me, and to tuck it away.
Its $50.

should I report this to the owner? I suspect she will let me keep it all, but i feel a little odd.

Is it a lot colder this winter? [Dec. 20th, 2009|11:07 am]

The car, it is not liking to start in the cold this year. Has this December gotten a lot colder, or is my car trying to tell me something? I know someday I have to replace it, but that sounds like a lot of work and money. . . really, is 20 degrees that cold? Hopefully it will be a bit warmer when the plow comes for the whole 2 inches of snow that fell last night. Wahoo!!

I lied [Dec. 18th, 2009|06:26 pm]

I hate this job. If I work 50 hours, Ill make as much money as I would have in 33 hours at the old job. My hands are sore and cracked from dog bathing. It seems Im allergic to the hot water+dog shampoo + forced air drier x 13 dogs a day. Gloves are no good, as I need to be able to know how dry the dog is.
The owner is very very sweet, and I really like her. I am going to have a talk with her tomorrow about the situation. I think she will be better off hiring another person, and I do not want to screw her over. I know I won the job out over someone else.
However, I do love the second part of the job, which is the day care aspect. But, again the pay is awful.
Better than nothing?

The search continues.

Holiday Baking [Dec. 18th, 2009|01:18 am]

This week Kym invited me over to bake ginergbread cookies with her. As I love to bake of course I said yes! But right after I did I realized that ummm yeah- I have never, and I mean never made or remember having gingerbread cookies. Ever. So I was really glad to find that when I headed over to Kym's later in the week to help bake the dough was all ready made and chilled (for 2 hrs.) It sounds silly but not having made it before and Kym being known as a very good baker I didn't want to mess anything up!. Thankfully I was just there to help cut and frost the cookies- which turned out to be very fun! Below are some photos of my first every gingerbread cookies!

top left cookie- hazmat man
bottom left cookie- Red Sox Fan
top right cookie- ghetto sumo wrestler
bottom right cookie- tribute to 80's hair bands

landscape photo on right-  bathing suite cookie and invalid shrek gingerbreadman

Matt and I went to my parents house for dinner
last night and to decorate the Christmas tree.
We haven't done this without my brother in a long while
but my Aunt Beth who is living with my parents for now
subbed in for him, and brought out some of her own ornaments
and added some new flavor to our old traditional tree.

I left David's ornaments and a few of the icicles for him to
hang when he gets home for Christmas. The lucky bastard is
off on a cruise to celebrate his girlfriend finishing her
montasorey & regular teaching degree.

Matt and I will be spending Christmas with his family this year.
Which will be my first real holiday without my family. We're going
to his aunt's house for morning brunch, then to his sister's house
for dinner. We then go to my parent's house for the rest of the
weekend to visit with everyone. Should be interesting. I have yet
to meet his grandparents.

The Most I've Learned about Cephalopods in One Day [Dec. 16th, 2009|05:44 pm]

Thanks to Cute Overload pointing me to National Geographic, I now have some useless information to share at holiday parties. Who wants to know an interesting fact or two about Octopuses? I think it might even be dinner appropriate subject matter! If you too want to study up on trivial information, take a gander:

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2009/12/091214-octopus-carries-coconuts-coconut-carrying.html

Not only will you learn about teeny little 3" octopi who have learned to crawl with coconuts suction-cupped to their tentacles for later use as shelter, you will also hear of the incredible flexibility of these non-skeletal deep sea creatures. If this doesn't get the conversations rolling, I don't know what will.

ok, seriously though, I'm fascinated.

wonder if i could fit one in a fish tank. . .

and he's the best one we know of too so it's super squee.
We're going with Walt Stienmetz as we hoped!
So glad that's settled!

I'm so excited our photos will be so beautiful.
